The
benefits of merino wool jerseys
Merino wool jerseys offer so much to the competitive or serious recreational
cyclist.
Merino
wool keeps you cool when hot - because wool absorbs moisture vapour
Up to 30% of its dry weight compared to only 1% with synthetics. By absorbing
moisture you have dryer skin, aiding evaporation and keeping you cool.
Wool is not a heat conductor. You'll be comfortable in the hottest temperatures.
Merino
wool is elastic
Merino wool can bend 30,000 times and can stretch as much as 33% and spring
back to place. You will get long wear out of wool.
Merino
wool keeps you warm when cold
Merino wool takes the moisture away and leaves a dry layer of air next
to the skin, helping to maintain stable body heat. With wool you have
reduced 'post exercise chill'. The wool crimps between the fibres to hold
pockets of air, insulating you. You will never feel cold and clammy as
you do with jerseys made of synthetic materials.
Merino
wool doesn't retain odours
A special amino acid laid over the wool fibres helps reduce odour causing
bacteria. Since wool wicks absorb vapour, bacteria can't flourish on your
skin. You can wear the jersey several times without offending other riders!
Synthetic materials cannot offer this.
Why
we use Merino wool?
When you take the time to really think about it, you will find, as we
have, that Merino does things that no other fibre can do!
Natures
technical fibre
Merino is actually one of the most complicated fibres - natural or not,
known to mankind. This complexity is what enables Merino to be used in
superfine soft knitwear.
Unparalleled
versatility
By keeping you more comfortable in both warm and cool temperatures, a
Merino single-jersey knit can do the work of a whole bunch of the synthetic
stuff. This is Merino wools greatest advantage over other fibres.
Ultimate
moisture transfer
The key to Merinos superior performance lies in its remarkable ability
to absorb moisture. Merino can absorb ten times more moisture than the
best synthetics - up to 30% of its weight and still feel dry and warm
to touch. Merino pulls moisture away from your skin more effectively,
keeping you dry and facilitating the perspiration process your body uses
to cool itself. You will be warmer in cool temperatures because you have
an insulating layer of dry air next to your skin. You will be more comfortable
in warm temperatures because your Merino fibre is wicking moisture better.
It
does not smell!
Synthetics might wick moisture on the outside of their fibres but because
they do not actually absorb the way Merino does, you stay damp the whole
time. This allows bacteria to feast upon the fats secreted by your Apocrine
glands. The result is the wiffy smell your friends develop when wearing
synthetics and not Merino knit wear!
Longevity
Merino is one of the most elastic fibres, it can be stretched up to 30%
and it will recoil back to its old shape. The fibre is extremely flexible,
it can bend up to 20,000 times before it breaks! In short, this means
a good Merino jersey knit garment can be expected to last a really long
time.
It's
natural
Our Merino wool comes from New Zealands Merino sheep, an impressive looking
animal, which due to the unique environment of clean pristine high country
runs, grows the most fine, clean and long Merino fleece of all wools.
No dirty deserts or plant contamination, requiring chemical acid washes
and softeners to enhance the wool, as from other countries we shall not
name! Sheep in turn, are made by God, which kind of makes our Merino jersey
knits a divine creation! No-one fights wars over Merino and it's a 100%
renewable resource. Petroleum based synthetics can not touch that one!
Other
natural attributes
It's safe - fire retardant and will not melt Totally easycare - machine
wash Silky soft handle with wonderful drape Ultimate deep lustre over
the colour spectrum The Merino sheep does not suffer - these animals are
too valuable to eat Non itch - no scratch wearability, unlike coarse sheep
wool.
