"If there is one DVD that should be in every cycling fan's library 'The Sean Kelly Story' is it. There are in fact two discs, making a total of almost four hours viewing, which never seems too much." Cycle Sport
Sean Kelly is the fourth most successful cyclist of all time with 22 classic wins to his credit. Only Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx and Bernard Hinault have more victories in classic events and major tours.
In 1978, one year after becoming a professional cyclist a young farmers son Sean Kelly, from a small town in Ireland, Carrick-on-Suir, won a stage of the Tour de France. Fourteen years later in 1992 Kelly descended down the dangerous Poggia descent to take Moreno Argentin and win the Milan-San Remo classic for the second time. Here in two parts is the definitive story of a cycling great.
In Part One Sean talks about growing up on a small farm in Ireland, how he first got into cycling riding his brothers bike, and the two things he knew about cycling at that stage, the RAS and Eddy Merckx. We learn about his amateur career, his victories in the Milk Race, hear Sean explain what his classic victories meant to him and sharing his memories we relive action from Paris-Roubaix, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Milan-San remo and other victories.
In Part Two we review Sean's Tour de France career, his stage wins and the four Green Jersey's. We share with him the great joy of his Tour of Spain victory, and see action from the Tour of Switzerland, the World Championships and the Nissan International Classic, including that never to be forgotten time-trial victory. Sean expresses his very personal memories of what cycling has brought him and what it was inside him that made him one of the sport's all time greats.
As the famed King of the Classics, Kelly was fearless, fast and very hard. "The man for all seasons", he raced and trained for twelve months of the year with awesome dedication - if ever there was a "Cycling King", it was Sean Kelly.
